While we're on the subject of refrigeration: if a Bosch refrigerator's ice maker stops working, check the on/off switch before calling anyone. A blower motor that isn't spinning could be a seized bearing, a dead run capacitor, a bad thermostat board, or a broken belt. I'm not 100% sure which one it is until the unit is open and the multimeter is connected. A capacitor swap is a $40–60 fix (a skilled hobbyist can do it), but a seized motor runs $300–700 installed, and a control board replacement is up around $900. I've also seen a blower motor diagnosis go wrong in the other direction: a tech replaced the motor but not the failing capacitor, and the new motor died within a month. The point isn't that professionals are infallible — it's that the cost of guessing wrong with a motor is high, while the cost of checking a filter is zero.
Verdict: Do the 5-minute checks yourself — filter direction, ice maker switch, tripped breaker. Let a licensed tech handle anything involving the blower motor, refrigerant, or gas connections. Quality doesn't mean spending more on everything; it means spending where it matters.
